From Windermere to the Alps: Stannites Inspire Through Adventure

On Monday morning, the whole school gathered for a truly uplifting Reflection led by two returning Stannites, Ben and Oscar.

Both alumni spoke with warmth and honesty about their recent adventures in the Alps, sharing not only the challenges they faced but also the powerful lessons they learned along the way. Their stories highlighted the importance of resilience, teamwork, and courage in the face of uncertainty — values that continue to shape their lives beyond Windermere.

What made the morning even more inspiring was the clear link between their Alpine journey and their first steps into the outdoors here at Windermere. It was during their Adventure lessons at school that their passion for the mountains was first sparked — a passion that has since grown into a defining part of who they are.

Their reflections on the value of Outdoor Education served as a timely reminder of why we place such emphasis on adventurous learning: it does more than build skills, it builds character, confidence, and connection with the world around us.

We are incredibly proud of Ben and Oscar for sharing their journey and for continuing to embody the adventurous spirit of Windermere School.

Thank you, Ben and Oscar — we can’t wait to see where your next adventure takes you!

✨ If you are a Stannite who would like to return to school and share your story with our pupils, we would love to hear from you. Please get in touch with Jo Gaskin, Head of Alumni and Community Relations, at jgaskin@windermereschoool.co.uk.
