A Warm Welcome Back: Stannites Ann and Jane Visit Windermere School

Yesterday, we had the privilege of welcoming two remarkable Stannites, Ann and Jane, along with their family, back to Windermere School for a very special visit.

At the marvellous age of 92, Ann brought the school’s rich history to life with her vivid wartime memories. One story that delighted us all was how, during quieter moments of the war years, she and friends would roller skate on the school’s unused pond – a reminder of the resilience and creativity of school life during challenging times.

Jane also shared a nostalgic moment as she walked up the school’s main staircase, admitting that even now, it made her feel slightly nervous – a rule in her school days strictly forbade pupils from using those steps!

Both Ann and Jane expressed how impressed they were with the school today, particularly with the success of the one-site move. Jane beautifully summed up their feelings:

"I think the new accommodation for Elleray is quite beautiful and a real tribute to the current school and to its large family of Old Girls (and boys). You richly deserve every success."

Moments like these highlight the strength of our Stannite community and the enduring connection between past and present. It is always an honour to welcome alumni back, to hear their treasured memories, and to share how Windermere School continues to grow while holding true to its heritage.

We are incredibly grateful to Ann and Jane for visiting and reminding us that once a Stannite, always a Stannite.
