Stannite Sets British Record at European OCR Championships

We are thrilled to congratulate Stannite Jonny Hunter on his extraordinary performance at the OCR European Championships 2025, held in Lisbon, Portugal.

Jonny proudly represented Great Britain and set a new British Record in the 100m Senior Category with an astonishing time of 29.034 seconds.

In gruelling conditions of 37–40°C heat at the National Stadium of Jamor, Jonny competed across four major events—the 100m, the Short Course (5km), the Standard Course (15km), and the National Team Race (9km)—from Wednesday through to Sunday, showcasing not only exceptional endurance but true Stannite grit.

With a carefully tailored race plan developed alongside his coach, Jonny targeted the Short Course as his "A race"—and his focus paid off. He stormed to 1st place in the 30–34 category, earning him the prestigious title of Age Group European Champion. Competing against 69 top athletes from across Europe, Jonny’s triumph is a testament to his relentless commitment and preparation.

In his other events:

He placed 6th in the Standard Course—his non-specialist discipline.

In the National Team Race, he was promoted to the Men’s Elite Team, racing shoulder-to-shoulder with world champions and achieving a commendable 9th place finish.

His crowning glory came in the 100m, where he advanced all the way to the finals and narrowly missed a podium finish, coming 4th overall—but securing the British Record for his category.

Reflecting on the event, Jonny shared,

“A heck of a load of fun! I’m super happy with my performance and have learnt a lot to prep me for my next races. Recovery’s done, and now I’m ready to train smart for the World Champs!”

Jonny now sets his sights on the FISO World OCR Championships in September, to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden.

Jonny, we are incredibly proud of your achievement and inspired by your determination. You continue to embody the adventurous, resilient spirit of Windermere School—true Stannite strength.

We wish you all the best as you prepare to take on the world stage once again.
