A Day at the Races – Windermere School at Cartmel

On Saturday, Windermere School was delighted to be part of the atmosphere and excitement at Cartmel Races, one of Cumbria’s most loved sporting traditions.

Representing the School, I had the privilege of interviewing some truly fascinating people from all over the country. A standout moment was meeting Dudley Moffat, father of celebrated horse trainer James Moffat, who was celebrating his 90th birthday on the day—a remarkable milestone, made even more special by the racing legacy his family has built.

Another highlight was presenting the winning prize for the Windermere School race. I was honoured to share this moment with Esmé, a Year 5 pupil, and her father Andy. Together, we had the joy of congratulating the winning jockey and horse in front of an enthusiastic crowd.

It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase Windermere School’s community spirit and strengthen our links with local and national networks. From celebrating sporting excellence to connecting with families past and present, the day was filled with pride and joy.

Our sincere thanks to the Cartmel team for their warm hospitality and for including us in such a well-loved event. We look forward to returning again next year!
