Couch to Scafell: A New Community Walking Series

We are delighted to introduce Couch to Scafell, a new community walking initiative designed to bring the Windermere School community together through shared experiences in the Lake District fells.

Inspired by the idea of Couch to 5K, Couch to Scafell is about starting gently and building confidence over time. The walks are inclusive, supportive and taken at a relaxed pace, encouraging participants to enjoy being outdoors while gradually improving fitness and familiarity with fell walking. Our long-term aim is to work our way towards tackling Scafell Pike together, one step at a time.

This series is as much about connection and wellbeing as it is about walking. Whether you are new to the fells or simply looking for a sociable way to explore them, everyone is welcome to join.

Our First Walk

The first walk in the series will take place on Lingmoor Fell, offering a manageable and scenic introduction to the programme.

Date: Wednesday 4 February 2026

Time: Meet at 9.00am

Location: Lingmoor Fell

Meeting point: Elterwater National Trust car park (near the Britannia Inn)

Distance: Approximately 5 miles

All participants are responsible for their own safety, wellbeing and suitable equipment. Walks are undertaken at participants’ own risk.
